About PEO

Peo Means Seed

In Setswana, peo is a seed: what a school plants in every learner, and what PEO plants in every school.

The Seed Story

Education Is a Seed

Peo is the Setswana word for seed, and the name carries the whole idea. A school receives a child at five or six years old and plants something that takes thirteen years to grow. What comes up at the end of Grade 12 depends on how well that seed was tended every school day in between.

Tending is daily work. The register taken each morning, so a child who stops coming is noticed in the first week. The mark captured on time, so a learner who is falling behind gets help before the exam. The fees collected and the books balanced, so the school keeps its teachers and pays them on the right day. The parent who can see the marks and the homework, so home and school pull the same way.

PEO is the system a school tends with. Every learner's record, from the first morning of Grade R to the last paper of matric, lives in one place where the people responsible for that learner can see it and act on it. The seedling in our mark says the same thing: a white leaf for what the school gives, and a gold leaf for what grows from it.

Why PEO Exists

Built for South African Schools

Most schools run on several systems that do not speak to each other: one for marks, one for fees, a spreadsheet for the books and another for payroll. PEO brings them into one, so the office, the bursary and the staffroom all work on the same records.

PEO is built around the South African CAPS curriculum from Grade R to Grade 12, bills in rand, takes payment through PayFast and works out PAYE, UIF and SDL. It runs on ordinary web hosting, so it costs a school far less to run.
